Hey all,
So I headed to Colorado School of Mines for my TV VB Teams to have team camp. We took off for a quick two day camp, I brought along my returning varsity members and a couple of new upper classmen to see how they would fit, and my underclassmen to fill up my JV. JV finished Fourth in camp and my "varsity" beat the cr@p out of the other teams and finished First.
I then had a day off, and on Monday July 20th headed to Portland, Oregon to coach with Mike King at his Univ. of Portland VB camps.
Needless to say I am BEAT!!! Mike sent me home with two pairs of $100 Nike shoes and 7lbs worth of shwag(clothes.)
Now at home we are getting ready for my camps, Brice and Andy are coming into town to help out and then school and tryouts.
See ya all later, N

Checkin' in with the Whitlocks!!!
So last weekend Heather and I headed out to visit with Jason and Becca Whitlock, who I have not seen since our HS Reunion and Heather has never met.
Heather and I planned to take off Thursday morning and head into the wilds of Wyoming on our first "just us" camping trip. We packed up the Jeep and were on our way.
The first part of our trip had us stopping off just over the Colorado-Wyoming border to visit Black Cat Fireworks Superstore(open year-round.) For many of us from Oregon you may have done the same thing heading into Washington and stopping at Black Jacks Fireworks. Heather being born and raised in San Diego has never seen one of these wonders of modern man and was enamored by the variety of fireworks. They had everything from your novelty Spinning Pagodas, Rolling Tanks, Firetrucks etc... to your 72" refillable Mortar launchers. They even had the "King of the Block" package which for $788 you could basically launch a small war vs. a third world country.
We picked up the $37 Black Cat assortment and went on our merry way.
For the first leg of our trip we planned on camping in the Flaming Gorge National Park that borders Wyoming and Utah. Visit http://www.wyomingtourism.org/overview/Flaming-Gorge-Recreation-Area/32475
Our drive was about 4.5 hrs and I am still amazed by the fact that there ain't sh!t in Wyoming!?!?!? I MEAN NOTHING?!?!?! Long stretches of.........er.....I mean.... nevermind :)
Once we found the turnoff to get to the reservior from Rock Springs, we had another 23 miles of nothing. Some of our pictures are of hills, mtns., prairie? and road. No traffic. But we got to see coyotes and Pronghorn and other stuff that we being from California have NO IDEA of what they are.
We set up our tent at the marina and proceeded to explore- next time we are camping on the water instead of at a campground, but you live you learn. Fortunately for us, we could see the Thunderstorm coming and proceeded to go into our tent(a 2person hiking tent) and play rummy and drink beer.... lots of beer. Thank goodness when I was in college and working at Peak Sports in Corvallis I used the opportunity to use a Pro Deal to buy a REALLY GOOD TENT!!! Waterproof...check. We had a break in the rain made some burgers and... as luck would have it, back in the tent for the rest of the storm, which lasted through to the morning. Nothing like waking up at 2am to check to see if you were adrift or what???
Friday July 3rd we headed to Star Valley "Resort" in Wyoming. This leg of the trek took us through Wyoming, 10miles of Idaho, then back into Wyoming. Very pretty drive. We pulled into the RV resort and found us the Whitlock Clan hanging out in front of the RV. I was most excited because Jason and Becca are two of my favorite people in the world and very seldom in life to you find people who honestly "know you" and always will!!!
That evening we went to dinner with Jason's uncle and Aunt and their posse- which they called themselves the 6 Pack :) Had a blast, and luckily, did not sit outside for dinner, even though Becca and I were really wanting to at first. It Rained!
July 4th- woke up and enjoyed ourselves some really SPICY Bloody Marys courtesy of Heather. I mean these things were EN FUEGO!!! Played frisbee, went for a bike ride around the park- people can buy slots and live there during the summer season and saw some of the most amazing RVs ever. they make Madden's look little. We even got to see some RC Airplanes flying around.
Almost forgot to add this in.... for the afternoon of the Fourth we decided to grill up some jalapenos to share with the Whitlocks. Using Rick's gift from this Christmas- a Cabellas jalapeno griller, we got started. DAMN... forgot the jalapenos in the bag at Wal-Mart. So we headed into town and got some fresh jalapenos. Alright, all set. DAMN, forgot the jalapeno corer. No problem, let's just use a knife. Sweet. Oh no big deal if there are a couple of seeds and core left... UHHHHHH WRONG!!!!! These things just about melted our faces off and I thought at one point Jason was gonna have a stroke. As I am laughing and enjoying my 7th jalapeno, my tongue melted off and I couldn't laugh anymore.
That evening we went looking for the gravel pit where everyone around the area lights their fireworks. Could not find it, so we went and asked at the check-in area.
They said "oh ya' its not open, well follow us." Ya alright- the Jeep ends up folliwing a golf carts for about 1.5miles..... I had to put it in neutral and I was still braking. All of a sudden there are like...8-9 cars following us. We get to a little gate and it is still locked. Now you look around and there are easily 30 cars waiting on the side of the road. Goes to show there is a LOT TO DO IN WYOMING.
Once the gate opens we all head in. We find a nice spot above the gravel pit and proceed to get our fireworks ready.... oh ya and it started to rain?????
It was an amazing display of amateur fireworks, Jason is a HUGE PYRO and Heather got to play with big time fireworks that are illegal everywhere else in the country.
Sunday morning we packed up, and the Whitlocks got ready to finish their vacation- they were headed to Yellowstone to do some rafting and horseback riding. Heather and I were gonna camp on the way home, but you know how we do it..... we drove all the way home(8hrs) instead and enjoyed a wonderful shower, a beverage and our bed.
Hope everyone had a great Fourth of July!!!
