However after 6....err...7....whatever years with Heather, you learn to like it. Now understand I love me some Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Charley Daniels Band, but for the most part I haven't been exposed to country music too much. Melissa loves it... but when you are hanging out with the cousins it is really too loud to hear music.
We were invited to attend the Stagecoach Music Festival with Deb and Bob this past April and we gotta outta Dodge for a little vacation.
Trip started at 2:45am Mountain Standard time, got dressed and headed to the airport for our 6:15am flight. It was raining and 38 degrees.... AWESOME start!!!!
Got on our flight, had basically the whole plane to ourselves and even got the emergency row on Southwest. Also, got a free Monster energy drink. Airlines no longer take cash for beverages, and I was really impressed with the technology, until it didn't take any of our cards, so the stewardess gave it to us free ;)
Got into San Diego, and had beautiful weather. Could really tell the difference in sea air and mountain air. Both good, but nothing is like coming home. Deb was there and ready almost the second we stepped to the curb and to Poway we went.
On the way we made sure to have Deb stop for breakfast burritos as good Mexican is hard to come by in Colorado, especially Loveland/Fort Collins area.
Got in the truck at Bob's and away we went.
After driving out to Indio/Palm Springs we headed out to the Palm Springs Tram, and I gotta tell you Friday was a FUNKY DAY!!!!
- 6:15am Denver Airport elevation 5'429ft 38 degress
- On flight.... ???? how many feet
- San Diego Airport 60ft elevation 67 degrees
- Poway 229 ft. 72 degrees
- Indio elevation officially below sea level 85 degrees
I mean REALLY?!?!?!?!? Interesting day for sure.
Headed out to dinner, and back to the RV park. The Fifth wheel that Bob and Deb have is AWESOME. Never spent much time in RVs before, Grace and Jim's and the Whitlock's and sorry kids, yours do not compare.
The day started with IHOP breakfast and finding smuggle spots for our alcohol and snacks. Leave it to Deb and Bob to also have the best set up for carrying our chairs and stuff...carts. Talk about hiding spots.
We headed over to the festival area, parked, and rolled the carts into line... and I gotta tell you I wish I had pictures.... I am talking a thousand-ish people waiting in line at this one entrance, drinking, in their country gear, and just having a good ol' time.
The goal was to pick a security person who would be gentle on their pat down and wouldn't check your gear too strenuously. I got the two younger African-American women and they were super cool, gave me a gentle pat down, I think they were both flirting with me... and let me through.
Then it was a mad dash for the open seating. Bob the master got us in the section right behind the reserved seats and we set up camp. Four chairs with covers, blankets, etc... ready to roll.
On Saturday we got to see
Billy Currington
Phil Vassar- These two blended into one another for me, but the music was fun
Sugarland- I have heard a lot of Sugarland, one of Heather's favorites. Really full of energy, A LOT OF FUN!!!
Keith Urban - knew who he was, kinda knew a few songs, was the closer for Saturday night, he came out into our section and was about 30 yards away. FUN.
Sunday- IHOP and then back to smuggling our stuff. Temp however was in the 90's and was close to stifling.
Got almost the same area as the day before. Just off to the left of center.
Heather and I drank more than our fair share of yummy lemonade, with supplemental beverage added from our stash. Bob had a root bear float at one point and at first I was like.."how could anyone eat that today" then I saw it and had a taste and wished I had gotten one too :)
Sunday we saw/heard
Heidi Newfield- EXCELLENT and not bad to look at either. Lots of energy, great voice. Did't know any of the songs, but really liked her.
Jason Aldean- had heard some of his stuff, was fun.
Brooks and Dunn- had heard some of their songs before, seen them on the television show Las Vegas. I guess this is their last tour together. Fun. Although noone could tell me which was which at first.
THEN.....
Toby Keith- Yahooooo!!!! I love this guy... errr.. bar... I know a few of his songs, and I know one by heart, he even added an extra chorus and I figured it out right quick!!!! FUN FUN FUN!!!
Monday came quick, packed up the fifth wheel and headed back to Poway.
Got to see Stacy and the kids, ENERGY!!! Had a great time visiting with them. They gave us a ride to the airport and we got to discuss.... Poop and diapers. Lots of fun. At least it was something I too could discuss. :)
Thank you Debbie and Bob... we had an AWESOME TIME!!!! I now can talk about country music and sounds remotely like I know what I am talking about....
I still don't remember which is which.. between Brooks and Dunn?
